With decades of experience in the administrative field and a solid background managing executive operations, I noticed a growing need in the business world — small to mid-sized businesses were overwhelmed, overtasked, and simply missing the kind of support that keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes. I realized I had both the talent and the passion to fill that gap.

Fairbanks & Company was born from a deep desire to serve.

The idea came to life during a transition in my own career. I had recently left a job, polished up my resume, and sent it out to over 100 companies. Despite my experience, profound letters of recommendation and qualifications, I wasn’t getting any traction. It was a frustrating and humbling season — but it was also a blessing in disguise. I reached out to a few entrepreneurs in my circle and started helping with various small tasks in their business that was overwhelming or too time consuming for them. I then reconnected with a savvy (and slightly cynical!) marketer I had worked with before, and together we decided to bet on ourselves. We started taking on clients directly for her pharmaceutical endeavors, and soon found ourselves supporting several doctors’ offices through executive support, marketing, and systems building. It was a true collaboration — bold, brilliant, and beautifully effective.

After a few years, the venture came to an unexpected end due to forces outside our control. That shift brought me back into corporate spaces for a few more years, but something inside me had changed. I had tasted freedom. I had proven that entrepreneurship wasn’t just a dream — it was a calling.

When I relocated to Los Angeles, my husband and I had a new baby, our teenager was fully engulfed in sports with games and team meetings, our eldest son needed me and my mother in-law needed constant support. So I decided to fully step into self-employment and build something that aligned with both my skills, my values and my family’s needs. That something became Fairbanks & Company.

Building Beyond Myself

Along the way, I discovered another passion: helping others become Virtual Assistants and tap into their own entrepreneurial gifts. I’ve built a small but mighty team of VAs and collaborators who are just as dedicated as I am to seeing small businesses succeed. I mentor and train others in this work because I believe in creating space for more women — especially Black women — to thrive in remote and flexible careers.
